From your idea, with a sketch, the production of a 3D model, a prototype of the product (if needed) and tool manufacturing to a sample piece and then the serial production in just 8 weeks. Our advantage: the whole development process takes place in one location, the headquarters of our company.

The goal of our research & development center is to enhance and fortify basic research. This is the place where we explore and develop innovative solutions across multiple fields. The scope of services of our development: 3D product design, FEA analyses, FMEA – risk assessment, tooling feasibility study, assembling drawing, prototyping.

ROTO is using latest modern technology to build the cast aluminium moulds, using 3D sand printer. This technology allows us to build the mould in the highest quality in shorter time.

Product quality is highly dependent on the mould quality, therefore moulds are manufactured according to the latest technology and are periodically maintained in our workshop. ROTO can also apply changes to existing moulds (e.g. new revision of product required, changing inserts of the mould).

PRODUCTION PROCESS: Rotational moulding
Rotational moulding involves a heated hollow mould which is filled with a charge or shot weight of material. It is then slowly rotated (usually biaxial), causing the melting material to disperse and stick to the walls of the mould. In order to maintain an even thickness throughout the part, the mould continues to rotate at all times during the heating phase to avoid sagging or deformation also during the cooling phase.

Our customers prefer a product that can be easily installed into final machine, without spending extra assembly work (level gauges, connectors, heaters, reducing connectors, inserts, seals, brackets, covers). After installing the built-in parts, we carry out 100% quality control, which includes pressure test in a pool under the water, inflated with air at 0.3 bar for 5 minutes.

Every product receives the following quality control: control inspection as per customer requirements, dimensional control and reporting of critical characteristics, under water leakage testing and reporting, wall thickness control (ultrasonic and magnetic ball), functionality control.

All data is saved to MES system

Described control procedure is digitally recorded and saved to MES (manufacturing execution system). Our MES system connects, monitors and controls complex manufacturing systems and data flows on the factory floor. The main goal of an MES is to ensure effective execution of the manufacturing operations and improve production output.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

For fuel tanks according to EN ISO 21487; ABYC H-33 and ABYC H-24 certification

In-house laboratory for certification process and professionally qualified staff to carry out following testing procedure:
  1. Quality inspection (characteristic accountability, verification and compatibility evaluation).
  2. Leakage test at test pressure (20 kPa or test pressure= 1,5x filling height from top surface of the tank).
  3. Storage of filled tank with the intended fuel for (at least) 28 days at ambient temperature.
  4. Hydraulic pressure/strength type test.
  5. Pressure-impulse type test for petrol fuel tanks.
  6. Fire-resistance test.
  7. Leakage test after fire-resistance tests (up to 1,8 kPa).
The entire certification process is carried out entirely in-house. Certificates are then issued by the following institutions:
  • IMCI – International Marine Certification Institute
  • DNV GL
  • DCI – Dutch Certification Institute

ROTATIONAL MOULDED TANKS

Advantages of rotational moulded tanks:

  • one piece moulding → no critical points or welds,
  • unlimited geometry → any free space on boat can be fulfilled,
  • competitive price in comparison to stainless steel or aluminium welded tanks,
  • no size limits → ROTO can produce up to 20.000 L size in one piece,
  • the moulds can be modular, tank can fit into wide range of the boats,
  • tank filling and venting pipes can be directly moulded on the tank,
  • lower tank weight in comparison to metal or HDPE/PP tanks,
  • ROTO’s assembling and testing – plug & play – tanks are ready for your assembly line.

Benefits of XPE material, used for fuel tanks in engine compartment:

  • achieve fire-resistance and pressure-impulse cycle test according to EN ISO 21487,
  • high stiffness and high impact strength properties,
  • excellent ESCR and chemical resistance,
  • excellent long term properties,
  • available in specific colours,
  • XPE is already proved on the market for long lasting period – in use for more than 50 years.
